We are also doing a bit of a bungalow faux-paux, and installing recessed lights in the basement and attic master. We are leaving the originally finished main floor and not installing any cans. However, we can’t pretend that the attic and basement are not new construction even though we are adding period features. That accompanied with the low headroom in the basement, was why we made our choice.

Wow Dawn, that’s a lot of fixtures! I would glaze over at like the third one. :)
I particularly like the architects & heroes ones. Snazzy!
There is no shame in using can lights in the basement. If you wanted original bungalow basement lighting fixtures you’d have bare bulbs and pullchains everywhere.
Ah but the writers over at Cottages & Bungalows magazines sure have any issue with them from reading recent articles. :)
We did have old porcelain single bulbs in the unifinished basement with pull chain strings that had assorted golf-balls at the ends. It was cute.
That look doesn’t go well down there anymore now that its been rewired. :)
I absolutely LOVE the Tiffany fixtures. How divine!
So, so, so beautiful! I am a total sucker for any sort of colored glass. I’m completely in love with that sweet little porch light.
Don’t beat yourself up over the recessed lights – we ended up doing the same thing on our attic level. The ceilings are only 6′ 3″ up there. We couldn’t exactly have hanging fixtures without risking serious injury! You have to do what works best for your family – it’s your home, not a bungalow museum, right? ;-)
I love the fixtures! I, too, am completely in love with the porch light.
You will love the end result. You have done an awesome, thorough job thus far, and have picked great lights, colors, doors, windows, etc.
Whoa! I thought I was being overly-obsessed with the tiffany style fixtures. If I had my way, they’d be in every fixture in the house but then I think I would border on grandmotherly-gaudy, so instead I did a little of each style I love.
The porch light is even prettier in person! It’s actually quite large and sturdy and I will be happy to get it out of the box and ready to use!
Love the work you have done on your house. We are in the process of renovation on our 1927 house. Would love to talk with you about some of the things you have done with your house.
