Sconce Beauty
I’ve found sconces for over the fireplace. We were surprised when we stripped the wallpaper and there weren’t sconce boxes papered over as they would look totally appropriate there. So we paid electricians to wire some in. I found these antique Sheffield-style sconces on Ebay (circa 1900ish I guess) and hope to use the amethyst carnival glass shades (also found on ebay) that have a beautful leaf pattern around the rim.
We also needed a sconce for the basement staircase, as there was no additional headroom to mount a can going down the stairs and still be to code. So I plan on using one of these there, and the other will be in the basement hallway outside of the bathroom. A recessed light couldn’t be put in the hallway because the return air takes up most of the space. I think sconces are prettier anyway. I plan on modifying the sconce fitter to a 3 1/4″ so I can use a tiffany-style shade from Rejuvenation on the staircase. I may keep the original shade it came with for outside the bathroom, unless I find a good deal on an art glass or other tiffany-style shade.

Great finds! I know I have papered over sconce boxes above my fireplace but I’m still looking for the right sconces (at the right price) to finally complete the look of our mantle. Be sure to post a picture when you get the fixtures in place!
Beautiful, beautiful sconces – I love all of your lighting so far (and I’m not just saying that because I have that same Rejuvenation shade in my entryway. :-)
Stephanie, I think that is where I first saw that light, in a photo of your entryway! Does it give off a lot of light, or is it fairly dim? I wil probably have a 60-75 watt bulb in the sconce once I have it rewired. Thanks!
Love the carnival glass! You find the coolest lighting!
