Master Bathroom: Before and After

Dec 30th, 200813 Comments

In the previous entry, I’ve posted before and after photos of the master bedroom. Now I’ll post photos of the master bathroom which make up the full master suite.

View the full set of master bathroom and master bedroom shots on Flickr.

The “before” photos aren’t much because we built a new dormer on the back of the house to make room for this bathroom and a new to-code staircase to the master bedroom.

Here’s the only real “before”:

This crawlspace area is now part of the new master bathroom. We’ve salvaged these cupboard doors as the entrances to the new crawlspaces. It also was a good intact sample of the original woodwork color that we tried to match. The fir flooring was also salvaged and used as the floor for our kitchen nook.

Here’s some photos of the hole in our roof when the dormer was started:

When framing on the dormer started, the bathroom started taking shape (the area on the left):

Now we’ll see the new bathroom. Here’s the entry door salvaged from our kitchen:

In-progress: A drywalled shot walking into the bathroom:

After: The finished view walking into the bathroom:

After: The vanity and medicine cabinets:

After: The Sunrise Specialty tub via Rejuvenation and Sign of the Crab faucet and shower enclosure:

After: Carrera marble basketweave tile:

After: The view back into the master bedroom:

After: Storage shelf and photos:

After: Glass shelves and art

Next: The new dormer staircase and kitchen nook.

Hi, I absolutely love your house and really appreciate you sharing all the details about your remodel. We just bought a house in NE Portland and are starting with a basement remodel later this summer. I had one question for you – where did you get the vanity and medicine cabinets in your master bath?

Love your photos. Question about your bathroom. I am about to purchase a bungalow with two clawfoot tubs. I love your curtain set up around your tub, especially the one with the pockets. Can you tell me where you got it from and does it go all the way around the tub? I am assuming the clean plastic goes all the way around and you just added a fabric curtain to the front of the tub. Any advice is most welcome. Thanks Susan

  3. Hi Susan, We got the clawfoot tub showercurtains on Ebay. One is extra wide 108″x72″ clear (around $12) and one is a clear shower curtain with mesh mockets (around $20-$25). Just search for those and they are easy to find. We overlap them in the front, which is why you’d want an extra wide.
