Kitchen Pantry Nook: Before and After

May 23rd, 20096 Comments

We’ve converted a enclosed porch into a usable kitchen space. Based on newspapers “insulating” the walls found during demo, we believe it was enclosed in 1923 and allowed separate access to the attic. The door into the porch also had a speak-easy built into it, which makes me go hmmm. :) We believe this was simply a business entrance for Lucas’ Home-Made Candies.

Wow, what a terrific transformation! I have the same Ikea shelves in my kitchen, and I have considered doing another set like you did on the opposite wall. Thanks for the great post. Your home is so beautiful!! :)

    What a great space!

Yet one more thing we have in common – I love cake stands! There’s one I’ve been swooning over at Noun on SE Belmont. Julio just doesn’t understand. Anyway, looks great!

We’re doing something similar and was wondering if you put any insulation in under the floor of the porch area? If so what kind and did you cover the dirt under the porch with plastic or anything?

  6. Our contractors did it as there are permit codes to follow under porches specifically. I think they did put a vapor barrier as well. Not clear on specifics as its not easily accessible for me to go look. :)
