The past few days have been a boon in the research department. I love how when I stop searching for a while and come back and do the same search queries, I find new details in new databases. Or, even better, when others are Googling for similar information and end up finding the blog here so we can collaborate.
The most fruitful thing to happen in when family members stumble across my blog doing Google or Ancestry.com searches. Yesterday, the great granddaughter of our home’s original owner, Jessie W. Palmer Lucas, contacted me via Facebook. I knew the great grandaughter was still in the Portland area through my 2008 interview with Elsie Lucas. Elsie was the wife of Calo Lucas, Jessie’s son, who lived in our house up until he was around 14.
Sadly, I learned that Elsie passed away in 2011 when her daughter-in-law contacted me a while back. The daughter-in-law being the mother of the great granddaughter who found me on facebook yesterday. Whew!!! It gets pretty complicated a few generations down.
All this to say that I realized I should probably update my blog with the information I have gathered about the Lucas family since I last wrote about them a few years back. I should start with a belated tribute to Elsie, who helped me the most on my search. So here goes …
